PROVIDE QUALITY EDUCATION

Still, far too many children don’t have access to a basic quality education. Relevant and appropriate education and life skills for children are some of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty.

The world has made great advances over the last 15 years in ensuring children have access to education. However, progress has slowed and much work remains to be done to ensure good quality learning opportunities for every child.

• More than 1 in 4 primary aged children – 250 million children worldwide – are not learning to read and write, despite being in school or other educational settings
• 59 million primary aged children – 1 in 11 children globally – are out of school. Girls represent more than half the out-of-school population
• 122 million youth globally are illiterate, of which young women represent 60.7%
• Out of school children living in areas affected by conflict has risen from 42% to more than 50% since 2008
• 65 million children are directly affected by emergencies and protracted crises, and 476 million children live in countries affected by crises with challenges to access relevant education
• Worldwide, more than 200 million children aged under five do not reach their full developmental potential due to the absence of early childhood care programmes

Dadoo foundation education programs vary according to local contexts but our goal is clear: to do our part to achieve access to quality learning for boys and girls to succeed in the future.

We focus on Basic Primary and Secondary Education, Education for Youth Empowerment, Education in Emergencies, Early Childhood Education and Cross-thematic Education and Child Protection initiatives.

• We work to remove barriers to education (discrimination, social traditions, and cultural beliefs) so that every girl and boy has the chance to go to school
• We focus our efforts on the most deprived and at-risk children, those affected by conflict and/or discrimination
• We work with teachers, administrators, and governments to make school more inclusive and relevant to boys and girls
• We work with school communities to help children develop foundational skills, to ensure that they are able to read and write and that schools are places where children are safe and happy
• We improve professional development for both qualified and non-qualified teachers
• We provide school materials and textbooks, and pay for tuition and uniforms that are sometimes required for school attendance
• We support youth in accessing formal and non-formal educational opportunities to succeed in their lives
• We provide life skills, social and emotional learning, and vocational training to children and youth who cannot afford to continue with secondary education or have missed out on primary school
• We implement ground-breaking initiatives in early childhood development and schooling for working children, children affected by conflict and Indigenous children
• We work to ensure that children caught up in crisis situations do not have their learning interrupted
• We work with governments to implement policies that are inclusive for the most disadvantaged children and youth

• Children and youth in our programs demonstrate better learning outcomes
• Boys and girls in educational spaces are physically safe with their wellbeing supported
• Our educational spaces promote active teaching/learning methodologies and are supported by engaged parents and communities
• More children affected by humanitarian crises are able to access safe learning opportunities and achieve better learning outcomes
• Youth with access to educational opportunities are positioned to achieve success throughout their lives
• Improved policy and practice to explicitly address barriers to learning and factors driving exclusion from children and youth access to quality education
